Our
Review
The ski
resort of Wagrain is split into two areas, Grafenberg
and Grießkareck. They are divided by the village
itself and linked by regular ski buses. The
Grafenberg side is linked by piste with Alpendorf and
has one access point in Wagrain at the bottom of the
Grafenberg gondola. This
is a great ski area if you like to feel like you're
going somewhere. The journey across from the top
of the Grafenberg gondola to Alpendorf village provides
you with a good days exploration. There
are a good variety of pistes to suit all
abilities. The home run to the base of the
Grafenberg gondola is particularly good for views of
Wagrain village. The
ski hut 'Hattau' situated at the bottom of the double
Hattau drags is worth a visit for the entertaining host
and hearty food.
Getting
There from Flachau Three
options: 1)
Drive to Wagrain and park up at the base of the
Grafenberg gondola. You could also drive to Alpendorf and start there, but it is not really
practical from Flachau. 2)
Drop over from Flachau and ski down to the bottom of the
Flying Mozart gondola. From here there are regular
ski buses (every 15 mins) that take you across to the
bottom of the Grafenberg ski area (5 min
trip). This is a particularly good option as
Flachau is a very popular coach destination. The
coaches don't arrive until about 10:00 so make the most
of the groomed slopes early on then drop over into
Wagrain when it starts to get busy. 3)
It is possible to get a bus from Flachau/Reitdorf to
Wagrain, but it's not a great option as it takes quite a
while and may involve changing buses. If you don't
have a car then #2 is by far your best option.
