Our
Review
The ski
resort of Wagrain is split into two areas, Grafenberg
and Grießkareck. They are divided by the village
itself and linked by regular ski buses. The Grießkareck
side is linked by piste with Flachau and has two access
points; The Flying Mozart gondola in Wagrain and the
Rote 8er gondola on the road from Wagrain to
Flachau. Flachau has 3 access points; the Star Jet
1 chair in the village centre, the Achter Jet gondola
and the Space Jet 1 chair on the way to Reitdorf.
Flachau
is a resort with wide slopes, some good tree-lined skiing and
a well renowned ski school. It has an
excellent modern lift system with a high proportion of
6/8 man covered chair lifts. The overnight
grooming is excellent. The terrain can lack
variation compared to some of the resorts in the
surrounding area. It is primarily an area for
intermediates, experienced skiers would struggle to find
a challenge. The pistes are also some of the
busiest in the area making them tricky for beginners
although the piste gradients are good. Flachau
also has good night skiing on Tuesdays and Thursdays
with the on-piste bars staying open until late in the
evening. There is a good opportunity to dance in
your ski boots in the Purzelbaumalm! On
the Wagrain side there are two large multiple stage
gondola, the Flying Mozart and the Rote 8er. If
you take one of these to the top, or drop over
from
Flachau, the run from top to bottom is good value. Getting
There You
can either park at one of the 3 base stations if you
chose to drive or you can take one of the regular ski
buses that travel around the villages of Flachau and
Reitdorf. The après ski at all 3 base stations is
particularly lively so we would recommend the bus!
