Bad Reichenhall is just across the Austrian border and close to Salzburg.  It has lots of old buildings and really nice pedestrian zone with shops and ice cream parlours.  

Skiing from Großarl is easy as the lifts go up from the centre of the village and there is a big parking area.  Whilst Großarl is quite small, it's link by piste with Dorfgastein makes it a good area to spend a couple of days exploring.

Hüttschlag is 8km from Großarl and is linked by bus.  It provides an alternative location for accommodation. The opportunities for cross-country skiing and winter walking are also extensive here.
