Our
Review
Kranjska
Gora has the most traditional 'ski village feel' of all
the Slovenian ski resorts we have been to so far and is
where we sampled our first 'Kuhana Vino', a hot sweet
spiced white wine.
Piste
access is direct from the village, with the base of the
main pistes ending at a range of bars and
restaurants. The slopes are lively, especially the
music on the nursery slopes, and there is a good variety
of skiing for everyone with well prepared pistes and
good snow cannon coverage.
Families
will love it here, there is a crèche right at the
bottom of the slopes and a large sectioned off play
area. One time we visited there was also a
friendly snowman handing out sweets and entertaining the
children.
The
adjoining ski area of Podkoren is well worth a visit for
the well maintained, empty pistes. The reason the
pistes are empty is access. There are 3
options for getting to Podkoren from the main Kranjska
Gora ski area. Firstly down the bottom section of
a reasonably steep black and then to return, go back up
to the top of the mountain and drop down into the main
Kranjska Gora area. Secondly, a long push along a
path maintained for cross-country skiing (totally
flat). Lastly, you can take a short drive from
Kranjska Gora to the car park at the base of the
Podkoren slopes. Your level of skiing will
determine the best option for you.
